THE SHORTEST WAY TO VICTORY
FORMULAS FAIL
I spent most of my time as a novice believer searching for the right formula to live what is termed as, “The Victorious Life.” I went from one Christian recipe book to another searching for just the right ingredients that go into making one an “overcomer.” I remember my dear wife, on one particular occasion when sampling a cake she had just taken from the oven saying, “It’s missing something.” Then after some consideration added, “I left out the main ingredient.” That is the way I felt— no matter how much I put into the mix, there was always something missing.
A LADDER WITHOUT RUNGS
After taking all the man-made, manufactured steps that were supposed to lead me to this victory I longed for, I found the climb was unending; one never arrived at the goal. All of my resolutions, no matter how sincere, left nothing but despair written over them. Then, worn out from searching, I realized the truth of the little poem:
“God is a tower without a stair. And His perfection loves despair.” In other words, at the end of self, you’ll find God!
THE SHORTEST PRAYER OF THE BIBLE
We hear much of the shortest text in the Bible, “Jesus wept.” But there is another short prayer, it was when Peter was sinking beneath the stormy waves and cried, “Lord, save me.” If this story teaches us anything, it teaches that victory is no more or no less than in, by, and through Jesus!Paul made it plain, “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor. 15:57)
