“Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall: for the man will not be in rest, until he have finished the thing this day.”~ Ruth 3:18
If you’re familiar with the little book of Ruth, then you are aware Naomi’s above mentioned comment to Ruth was after she had done what was expected of her, in that particular situation. The older Naomi knew Boaz was a man of integrity and would not fail to fulfill his part in this matter. There was nothing left for her daughter-in-law to do now, but to sit still and patiently wait for Boaz to finish the task at hand.
When our children were very small, I had my wife have them sit still a half hour daily. They could read or play a game, but must be free from other activities or busyness during this time. To sit still is an important lesson for all children to learn.
The world has stolen the Bible teaching, “Good things come to those who wait.” Mary sat still and Jesus said, “Mary hath chosen that good part…” Isaiah tells us, “Their strength is to sit still.”
You can be assured after you have done your part in any given situation our heavenly Boaz will do His part! “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.”~ Jn. 4:34
Mathew Henry wrote, “Sometimes that proves best for us that is least our own doing.”
