Some men are likened to one another in scripture. For example Elias (Elijah) and John the Baptist. But none is matched to David. He is the lone saint who is referred to as a man after God’s own heart. And in all the Holy Scripture it is not written, “He (God) liked me,” other than darling David.
Interestingly there is no one else in scripture by the name of David. Ther is only one David.
His book (Psalms) is quoted more in the New Testament gospels by our Lord Jesus than any other Old Testament book. Our Lord said, speaking of David, “He wrote of me.” David’s secret of a full and rich life was, “I Jesus…I am the root…of David…” And the Holy Word tells us, “…if the root be holy, so are the branches.” David was a Holy Man of God!
For me, two of the most heart wrenching and humbling statements David made in his lifetime were, “Who am I?” And,“I am poor and needy.” These twin comments will mean more to the reader when you realize the greatest king that ever lived (apart from Christ) made them !
Meditate on these things.
