“And Hannah answered and said…For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him.”~ 1 Sam. 1:15, 27
Both the Old Testament and New, as well as Church history, show the great effect Christian mother’ prayers had and do have upon the Kingdom of God. Only in eternity will it be fully revealed, I believe.
It seems Timothy’s mother prayed him into the ministry, and John Mark's mother, a woman of prayer, prayed him back into the ministry. Throughout the Gospels you will find mothers interceding on their children’s behalf.
My own blessed mother prayed me both into the Kingdom and the ministry. My precious mentor, Dr. Joe Henry Hankins, an old-time evangelist told a heart-wrenching story of his own mother.
He said when he was grown and leaving for collage his mother called him aside and told him the following: “Son, at school you will have many temptations, and I want you to know that every night I will be on my knees praying for you, at nine o'clock, sharp.”
He went on to tell of one night when a gang of guys were headed for a house of ill-repute. He said on the way they passed a church, with a clock in the bell-free. As they passed-by the church the clock rang out its chimes, he looked up and it was nine o’clock sharp.
It was the turning point of his life and ministry!
“Some have had kings in their lineage, Some to whom honor was paid.
I don’t have those as my ancestors But I have a mother who prays.
I have a mother who prays for me And pleads with the Lord every day for me.
Oh what a difference it makes for me I have a mother who prays.
Oh yes…I have a mother who prays for me And pleads with the Lord every day for me.
O what" difference it makes for me I have a mother who prays.” (anon)
