“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness…the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 Jn. 1:9, 7
“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”~ Heb. 8:12
In my meditations recently, my thoughts went to our three main texts. How glorious to have God forgive us of all our sins; and then, to have them washed away in His Son’s Blood; and just as blessed, to be assured that the Lord has forgotten them. Is it any wonder then that the writer of Hebrews refers to it as, “SO GREAT A SALVATION"
Years ago I heard an old camp meeting preacher say, “God saved me 40 years ago, and I ain’t got over it yet!” To this statement, Paul the Apostle would have shouted out a loud and boisterous, “AMEN! He was daily in awe, all his earthly life, of his salvation in Christ; and I am confident he will be for all of eternity now that he is with his lovely Lord.
I have a sermon where I illustrate the above this way: In spite of knowing the wrong of it, a little child marks up its father’s newly painted wall. Fear of chastening falls upon the child when the deed is discovered. Immediately, with heart-felt repentance, the child confesses the wrong against their father. The father takes the child in his arms saying, “I forgive you,” then takes a sponge and cleaning solution and cleanses away all signs of it having ever been marked up. After which he adds, “Now let’s forget it.” Some time later when the child brings it up again, the father replies, “I don’t remember.”
I remember the days when I was bent low,
With the burden of sin and strife;
Then Jesus came in and rescued me,
And he gave me a brand new life.
And now as I thank Him day after day,
For washing my sins away;
It seems I can almost hear the voice
Of the Blessed Savior say,
"What sins are you talking about?
I don't remember them anymore;
From the Book of Life they've all been torn out,
I don't remember them anymore."
He put our sins behind His back! “…for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.”~ Isa. 38:17. THERE IS NOTHING BEHIND GOD’S BACK!
