Tokens of Mercy
“Shew me a token for good...” ~ Psa. 86:17
Not “...show me sign...” as Gideon prayed. But rather a small token as proof you are with me and for me, an evidence of thy favor toward me. I need to see it, says the sweet Psalmist, and others around me need to observe and be convinced of it also.
At this particular time in David’s life, he was in dire straits, and felt the need for some, small token of God’s affection. Some little something that proved God’s pleasure was with him.
Not a miracle, just a simple little token. A token as small and insignificant as something used for bus fares or bridge tolls.
When just a little tyke, around seven, I rode the bus to town from time to time, to the movies. Rather than coins we’d use small tokens in there place to drop into the change box. That small token always got me to where I was going. Just as long as right stamp was be seen on it.
O God, wilt thou not send me a token of thy mercy, today? One with your stamp upon it!
