Although it must have been terrifying for my children, it was one of the great blessings of my life —the day they trustingly jumped from the counter-top into their father’s arms, putting all their trust in his word that he would catch them! The end goal was learning to trust their Heavenly Father.
David tells us, “Trust in him at all times.” That is, around-the-clock trust, even during those dark, dark hours. David addresses all people, in all circumstances, at all times, encouraging them to put their confidence in God, no matter what time it may be. To trust in anything or anyone else is to lean on a broken reed.
We need not go to Hebrew scholars to find the meaning of trust. The old K.J.V. is its own interpreter and commentary. If one would take the time to search the scriptures, he’d find the old 1611 K.J.V. tells us the meaning of the word. (Prov. 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (cp. 2 Kgs. 18:21). The Hebrew meaning of the word, lean on.
Our testimony needs to be that of the bride in Song of Solomon, We’re told she, “Lean[ed] upon her beloved.” And also that of John the Beloved, “Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.” As Oswald Sanders wrote, “Trust is effortless confidence based on the character of the one in whom it is reposed.
The prophet Isaiah tells us to “Trust ye in the Lord for ever.” And if one does this, God will “keep him in perfect peace.” We’re promised, a man or woman who trusts in the Lord will be like “mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.”
The main godless goal of Satan has always been to get one to trust in anyone or anything, other than putting our trust in the Lord.
“Strange indeed, is it not? That we can trust our eternal soul to Him, but not our temporal life.” (rds)
The picture so perfectly demonstrates trust. I love the pure joy reflected on the faces of the child and her father. I will be sharing your "scribblings" this morning with my son. He needs to be reminded to trust his heavenly father in ALL things and this most certainly will do that. Once again, I thank you for sharing your words and wisdom.
