“To every thing there is a…time to every purpose under the heaven.”~ Eccl.3:1
Truth is timeless. It is eternal. It never changes nor wavers. In every age, situation, and condition, it remains the same. It never changes its garb; it is always in style! Always fashionable. As George MacDonald wrote, “Truth is truth, whether from the lips of Jesus or Balaam.”
Having said this, let me add that although the truth is found in one volume, so to speak, it has many chapters. That is, life has many facets. Not all truth is given to us in every instance; we only need the truth for that particular situation. We borrow from the whole truth and apply it to that singular case that lies before us.
Let me give an example: in the Sermon on the Mount when Jesus speaks those nine “blessed’s." I seriously doubt each individual and family memorized each of the nine. They were not yet recorded at the time spoken. What I do believe is that every person and family applied to their lives what was applicable to them at that particular time.
At Jesus’ trial before his crucifixion, Pilate asked our Lord, “What is truth?" The Bible answers it for us.
