“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually….The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence…And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth…the earth is filled with violence…”~ Gen. 6:5,11-13
“And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah…And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him…By faith Enoch…had this testimony, that he pleased God…And Enoch…prophesied…saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints…”~ Gen. 5:22,24; Heb.11:5; Jude 1:14
When it comes to world conditions ours is not one of seclusion but rather one of repetition. Jesus said in reference to such days of old, “And as it was in the days of Noe (also Enoch’s— the same days), so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man” (before His coming)~ Lk. 17:26.
In spite of the depraved conditions of his day, we’re told, “Enoch walked with God,” in the midst of all the debauchery and filth. We are told the same of Noah, Gen. 6:9. Difficult, yes! But not impossible; it has already been done.
The life of Enoch has always fascinated me. We’re told he began his walk with God after the birth of his first child, Methuselah. Many a man began taking God more seriously after such a happy event. His was a faith walk, since sight would have discouraged such a walk. And he reminded his generation of the Lord’s coming.
The Scripture tells us right in the midst of this cesspool of corruption, God “snatched” him away, while alive.
I like the way the little Sunday School girl described his life to her class when asked to do so by her teacher. “Well,” she began, “Enoch walked with God so long that the Lord said, ‘Enoch, we’re closer to my Home than yours, why not just come Home with me?’”
