WHAT A DIFFERENCE A LETTER MAKES
"...as thy days, so shall thy strength be."~ Deut. 33:25
When I was a boy in the 40's there was a popular song entitled, "What a Difference a Day Makes." This is also true of words and phrases; one letter can change the entire meaning. For example, [D]is-appointment and [H]is-appointment. Concerning the former, this is when Romans 8:28 needs to kick into our lives.
When will we who are in the will of God ever learn that most, if not all, of our disappointments are actually His appointments. Ask saints such as Joseph, Daniel, Esther, and a host of others who saw the end of their disappointments work out for their good.
Because of this we should follow the scriptural admonition, "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." My dear late wife brought to my attention the "will," in this text. It is an act of will. You use your will to accomplish this difficult task. I say difficult for the reason that good days are not hard to rejoice in. Someone has said, “Life would not be so bad if it were not so daily.”
In closing I turn again to our opening scripture. Aren’t you glad it does not say, “As thy strength, so shall thy days be?” If this had been the case, I’d have been finished long ago. God knew that in our fallen state there would be both good days and bad days. Therefore He promises strength, especially for the latter.
“It is vain for you to rise up early to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows.”
