“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”~ Rev.3:20
As a boy I remember my Mother saying, “Son, go see who that is at the door.” In the case of a Laodicean Church member you would have found it was Jesus that desired entrance.
Someone may ask, “Why didn’t He just enter?” If you’ll check the famous painting, that most if not all are familiar with, you will find the answer. There is no door latchet by which He could do so. The artist wanted to convey, I think, to the inquiring eye that it must be opened from within.
We depict this as an allegory representing Jesus and the sinner. But this is directed to self-satisfied saints whose testimony is, “We have need of nothing.” Jesus characterizes such as: lukewarm, wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked.” And what's even worse, they were unaware of it. Materialistic, but miserable!
Our Lord tells us man has the ability to open the door of his on his own, therefore placing all the responsibility upon the Christian. He meant for me to respond to Him of my own free will!
O, my friend, are you listening to what the Spirit is saying? “Grant Him entrance and deny all others that would want to share your heart with Him”
Jesus is the world’s everlasting problem, but the saints' everlasting wonder!
