“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”~ 2 Tim. 2:15
I’ve taken the title for this article from the late H.A. Ironside’s little booklet, by the same title on rightly dividing the Word. There is a group of Ultra’s that have built an entire system of interpretation on this one scripture. I like what A.W. Pink said of many of them, “They put a lot of credence on the latter part but not the former, the study.
The main emphasis here is speaking more of proportionately than of equally. Some use the Old Testament sacrifices to prove the latter. Showing God, the priest, and the offerer of the sacrifice, each received coequally the same. But that is not so in all the sacrifices. In the Whole Burnt Offering, God got it all.
I often illustrate it this way: a mother dividing a pie among her 250 lb. husband, and herself, along with stair-step children, divides it proportionately not equally. Paul fed some with the milk of the Word, others with the meat. Jesus told His disciples that, at that time, they were not able to digest what He desired to dish out to them.
Our Lord tells us we are to live by every Word of God. My dear friend Marvin Clanton, now in Heaven, said of the text, “Well there goes the Ultra-Dispensationalist argument.” Paul tells us it was all written for us. As my son Andrew says, “All the Bible, for all of Life.”
O my beloved reader, God did not leave us half a loaf but a full loaf, to feed our hungry souls on! All of it is hot bread from Heaven’s oven! He never intended for any part of it to gather mold.

Yes and Amen. I have never understood basing an entire system of interpretation upon one verse of Scripture. Thank God he gave us the whole loaf.
