THE POOR WISE MAN
(Please read Ecc. 9:14-18)
I cannot remember a time in my life, from my earliest childhood to (now) my old age, when I was not fascinated by those who possessed a unique kind of wisdom. I observed a great deal of the time, not always, it was found living in soiled overalls or a cheap gingham dress: nonentities, if you please. As to great men, the Scriptures tell us they are not always wise; the greatness, I think, referring more to position than to intellect.
Most, in the know, shy away from this gift. The price for possessing it is too great, far above rubies. The truly wise man and woman accept the grief that accompanies one with much wisdom. There are those who say of such people, “Thou art mad.” The wisest man who ever graced this earth was laughed to scorn. True wisdom is very useful, but little respected. When people get what wisdom brings they're apt to forget the wisdom of the wise.
But that is alright, wisdom does not expect to be recognized by this world; it realizes it will receive its due later. It can wait! Wisdom understands what lies behind the scene is what counts with God.
The poor wise man in our story, who guided things aright, wasn’t even taken into account at the end of the day. But his story is eternally etched in the Word of God. Such knows the most important part of one’s life is that part that only God sees.
“All the things that may be desired are not to be compared to [wisdom].” ~ Prov. 8:11

It might sound unusual for some, but the book of Ecclesiastes was the actual book used by God, in His Providence, to propel my conversion. Through this profound wisdom book, God dismissed all my inquiries and humbled my heart to say, "This God is true." This post brought back the sweet memory of encountering with my Savior.
